Description

Temporary shoring of 21″ deep trench

Division

ASAP Installations

Challenge

Provide a shoring solution without soil boring data that provided enough space for the contractor to perform their pipe repairs and that also kept workers safe at all times.

Solution

Design of shoring was developed in coordination with the general contractor to ensure they had enough room to perform their repairs. The trench was designed with a double wale with cross struts spaced as per the GC’s needs, hot-rolled sheet piles were used in order to mitigate the dewatering scope. In addition to the trench, two cut-off walls were installed to isolate the work area from the power plant and also to assist the dewatering efforts. All sheet piling was installed and removed without perturbing the adjacent structures.
